DAVE WOOD: A REASON TO LISTEN TO TAYLOR HICKS

Yeah, yeah, Taylor Hicks guy won American Idol, he has gray hair and sounds all soulful and stuff. But check out his band. Especially the guitarist.

That there is Dave Wood, former guitarist of the Groove Tube, a funk band that ripped up Springfield's music scene in the '90s. He joined the Taylor Hicks band and played at the tree lighting at the Rockefeller Center in New York City before an appearance on last night's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."

You can find more of his music and guitar method here.

Interesting notes on Dave Wood. I'd love for you to ask Dave what he thinks about being in Taylor Hicks' band. And I'd love for you to publish that here. I guarantee you'd be very surprised.

I don't know too much about Dave Wood but I thought that horn player with the hat was pretty good too.

do you know anything more about the sax player with the hat? I like how he takes his mouth away from the horn when he's not playing so it doesnt look like he's faking any of the song.

I've found info on the band members at www.graycharles.com, Page 2, under "Name That Band." Sax players are listed.

I'm biased, but I thought the drummer was down, too.

For an American Idol winner, I'm diggin' Taylor Hicks. He brings a Southern flair to Chicago blues that is bright and addictive. If this is the future of pop music, I'm all for it.

But, MAN. You should have heard Wood blow up Bon Jovi's "Dead or Alive" when he was in high school. Aces 'n' Eights, baby.

The sax player with the hat is Jeff Lopez. He's great.

I've heard him play several times with a couple other bands.

The sax player with the hat is Jeff Lopex, an incredible horn player, a great singer, and a good man. And I am not just saying that because I call him my friend.

Lopez lives and breathes and feels the music. It is great to see him play with Taylor and Dave on Taylor's promo tour!
