SENATOR: MSSU SHOULDN'T BE A UNIVERSITY
Missouri Sen. Ed Robb, R-Columbia, may have some 'splainin' to do.
The Columbia Tribune's Jason Rosenbaum blogged about how Robb allegedly told a Mizzou students' group that Missouri has too many universities (scroll down the page a tad). While a College Democrat spilled the news in a letter to the editor published in the Maneater, Robb admits to Rosenbaum that he would support transforming some regional universities into traditional community colleges.
Missouri Southern State University is one of his examples.
"We have too many universities," Robb said to Rosenbaum. "I think there must have been a contest to see how many universities per capita we can have. And [Missouri] Western and [Missouri] Southern were community colleges. And in the past decade they’ve become full-blown universities. And they’re very close to other existing four-year universities."
